Having played against two Nigerian teams, MFM FC and Enyimba FC on the continent last season, Malian midfielder Bourama Doumbia has expressed his desire to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) from the coming season.
Speaking exclusively to Jollof Sports following Mali U-23 international friendly match against Burkina Faso U-23, the diminutive midfielder said, “I really want to play in the NPFL next season if my representative in Nigeria can bring me an offer.
“Playing twice in Nigeria against MFM FC and Enyimba last year was very amazing for me especially when I heard both MFM FC and Enyimba were interested in signing me,” Doumbia speaking about his experiences playing in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup
Doumbia’s representative in Nigeria, El Niño confirmed that the former Djoliba AC Number 10 who stole the show in both games against Enyimba and MFM received an official offer from Enyimba but the deal broke down after the player’s parent club in Mali, Black Stars FC tried to secure a move for the player to Spain.
El Niño said, “Yes, Enyimba made a good offer to both player and club but in football things happen and this was one of those where another club in Spain showed an interest at the time as Enyimba and despite the player’s desire to move to Nigeria, the Black Stars FC’s management chose Spain but that didn’t work out due to visa challenges.”
Doumbia would definitely be an interesting creative boost for several NPFL Clubs who struggle to create chances in the final third and only time will tell if a move to an NPFL club next season would materialize.
