Villarreal wunderkind Samuel Chukwueze says he is in the know that a number of Premier League clubs are interested in making a move for him but he yet remains committed to the Yellow Submarines.
After his tremendous exploits for the Golden Eaglets in their 2015 U-17 World Cup winning campaign, he got snapped up by Villarreal on a two-year deal in the summer of 2017.
The teenager’s contract with the Spanish side however expires next summer and a hosts of top European sides are already planning a swoop incase Villarreal fail to convince the player to sign an extension.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that there are a few interests from some top English clubs, but on the reports on Atletico Madrid, I’m not really sure about that,” Chukwueze told AOIFootball.
The winger however reinstated his commitment in helping Villarreal, who are placed 18th in the La Liga after 16 round of matches, escape relegation and finish in the top half of the table .
“I have a contract here which expires in the summer and the club knows what to do. So, we will just keep our fingers crossed and see what happens before then. But for now, the focus remains to help the club win as many games as possible and return us back to the top half of the table,” he added.
Arsenal and Leicester City are believed to be well ahead in the race to sign the winger in the summer.
Chukwueze will not forget 2018 in a hurry as he recorded big breakthroughs in his club and international career.
He has registered four goals and one assist in 13 appearances for Villarreal first team since he made his senior debut in their Europa League clash with Rangers in September.
The forward’s impressive performance for the Yellow Submarines earned him a first-time call-up to the Super Eagles in November. He made his debut for the senior national team in a friendly against Uganda afterwards.
