Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić has bagged the 2018 Ballon d’Or award, recording a landslide triumph over other nominees.
The accolade completes a dream year for Modrić who just back in September claimed FIFA The Best award.
The Croatian helped Real Madrid to a emerge Champions League winners for a record third successive time.
He went on to lift Croatia’s ‘dream’ team to a major World Cup feat in the summer, helping them finish 1st runners up behind France in the summer in Russia.
On a personal ground, he bagged the World Cup Golden Ball, Croatia’s Best Player of the year award, FIFA The Best award, and the Ballon d’Or nonetheless caps off an astonishing year of immense achievements for the 33-year-old.
Also worthy of note, he was named in the Champions League team of the season, FIFPro World XI and the UEFA midfielder of the year.
Modrić garnered 753 points to scoop the accolade while Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo came in 2nd place with 476 points.
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann finished 3rd with 414 points with his French World Cup winning teammate, Kylian Mbappe 4th with 347 points.
Argentine Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi completes the top five having garnered 280 points. Interestingly, it is the first time Messi will be placed outside the top three since 2006.
