John Obi Mikel has apologised for his absence from the Super Eagles squad selected for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double header against Libya.
In the pre-match press conference ahead the clash scheduled for the weakend, the team’s coach Gernot Rohr stated that Mikel asked out of the clashes because he is not fully fit.
“Mikel is still not fit and so he asked to be left out. It’s a physical problem,” Rohr said.
“Once he is fit again and playing for his club, he will be back with us and I hope that will be soon. We hope he will be back for next month’s game in South Africa.”
It is worthy of note that Mikel sat out of the clash against Seychelles in September due to fitness issues as well.
The skipper has not been in action for the Eagles since the team’s elimination from the World Cup in June after a painful 2-1 defeat to Argentina.
