The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have sealed their spot in next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations following their victory over Ghana on Saturday evening in Niamey.
The Eaglets defeated the Black Starlets 3-1 on penalties after playing 1-1 in regulation time in the final of the U-17 WAFU Zone B qualifying tourney.
After a goalless first half, the Ghanaian boys broke the deadlock on 54 minutes but it took the Manu Garba-led side only seven minutes to level up scores.
The game was then forced to a shootout after the end of regulation time with both sides level at 1-1.
David Ishaya, Samson Tijani and Mohammad Ibrahim were all on target in the penalty shootout for Nigeria while the Nigeria’s scorer Akinkunmi Amoo misfired.
Nigeria have now joined other already qualified nations: Cameroon, Uganda, Angola, Morocco and hosts Tanzania for the AFCON tourney scheduled for May 2019.
