Ighalo’s transfer to Changchun Yatai makes him most expensive Nigerian player

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo completed the move to Chinese Super League side, Changchun Yatai from Premier League outfit, Watford FC for a fee of £20 million (€23.3m).

The transfer fee is the most paid for the move of any Nigerian player. The former record stood for eleven years and it was paid to Lyn Oslo for the services of John Obi Mikel. €20m was paid by Chelsea to the Norwegian club with part of it going to Manchester United as compensation.

Premier League champions, Leicester City splashed the cash to make up for the third and fourth most expensive Nigerians when they signed Ahmed Musa and Wilfred Ndidi for €19.5 million and €17.6 million respectively in 2016.
