NPFL Week 24 Review: Enyimba Beat Pillars, Wikki Humble Abia Warriors

The Nigeria Professional Football League Week 24 matches are a total contrast of the matches played over the weekend in the week 23, though having 4 matches postponed because of the Federation Cup semi-finals played yesterday.

Only 5 goals were scored in 6 matches. But nonetheless, lovely display of footballing actions were witnessed all over the country as The Aba Elephants bounced back to summit continuing their game of hide and seek with Sunshine Stars at the top of the league table after pipping Pillars in a much anticipated game.

Enyimba FC 1-0 Kano Pillars

Both teams entered the game with 6 matches unbeaten run each, but one was destroyed after 90 minutes.
Ifeanyi George converted a spot kick in the 28th minute to give the Aba Elephants all 3 points to leap frog Sunshine Stars yet again to the number 1 spot on the league table.

El-kanemi Warriors 0-0 Warri Wolves
Dolphins 1-0 Sunshine Stars

In an early kick off yesterday, it ended a barren draw between hosts, El-Kanemi Warriors and Warri Wolves. The Seasiders had won the reverse fixture 5-0 in Warri and were looking to do the double on the Warriors but were held at the Karkanda Stadium, Katsina.

A 1-0 loss to Dolphins in Port Harcourt saw Sunshine Stars drop to 2nd on the table with 42 points. The Akure Gunners fought hard to get points from the game but Jonathan Zikiye’s 56th minute free kick goal dented their efforts.

Heartland 1-0 Kwara United
Wikki Tourists 2-0 Abia Warriors
FC Taraba 0-0 Bayelsa United

Heartland FC entertained the Harmony Warriors on their return to the Dan Anyiam stadium. It was a good feeling to be back at home and that was spelt out in the performance put out by the players of the Naze Millionaires to get 3 points against a Kwara side that lost at home to Wikki in their last match. Jimoh Oni found the back of the net in the 37th and that lone goal was all that was needed.

Wikki Tourists, like Heartland on Kwara United, also completed the double on Abia Warriors beating them 2-0 in Bauchi. Mubarak Umar bagged a brace to win it for the Tourists.

FC Taraba looking to rise out of the bottom of the league table welcomed fellow relegation battlers, Bayelsa United but neither side could do much to improve their status on the log as both teams settled for a barren draw. But Bayelsa United will be the happier of the two gaining a point on the road. They now lead FC Taraba with 2 points just a place above.

4 Remaining Matches

Shooting Stars v Nasarawa United
Sharks FC v Lobi Stars
Giwa FC v Enugu Rangers
FC Ifeanyi Ubah v Akwa United

These matches have been rescheduled to take place next week Wednesday, August 26.
