Nigeria Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has secured the services of an Italian coach Enrico Pionetti as the senior national team’s new goalkeeper coach.
Rohr, on Monday, July 31, arrived Kano camp – venue of training of the home-based players for CHAN – with Pionetti, whom he wants to work hand-in-hand with Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu.
With Carl Ikeme out for an indefinite period, Rohr hopes the arrival of the new coach will help improve the goalkeepers available (especially the home-based shot-stoppers) and in return ease the goalkeeper crisis.
The former Brescia and Lecce goalkeeper, who has worked with Gernot Rohr in Burkina Faso and French club Nice, arrived the ancient city Monday night and moved straight to the team’s Tahir Guests Hotel.
The 62-year-old today began work as he drilled captain, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and the other shot stoppers.
