Nigeria’s women basketball team, D’Tigress, are through into the final of the ongoing 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Bamako, Mali after defeating the host 48-47 on Saturday.
The girls have also secured a ticket for the 2018 FIBA World Cup in Spain with the victory over their Malian counterparts.
D’Tigress continued their blistering run of form in a campaign for a third title, starting the first quarter with a relatively low margin of 10-7 points.
The second quarter ended 23-12, while the third quarter,
which proved difficult for the Sam Vincent-led team, saw the Malians move raced to a 17-16 win for the quarter.
The final quarter was almost a nightmare for D’Tigress who could not match the fireworks of the hosts as the Malians won the quarter with 18-9 points but the result was good enough for the Nigerians to win the game with 48-47 points to secure a place in the final and also grab one of the two World Cup tickets available.
D’Tigress’ Ezinne Kalu contributed a total of 11 points and six assists to the victory.
Nigeria will take on Senegal on Sunday for the final of the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
