Akwa United kept their hopes to secure a continental ticket in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) alive after defeating Lobi Stars 1-0 in their Matchday 36 game at the Uyo Township Stadium on Friday.
Musa Newman gave the host the lead in the 20th minute, heading in Ifeanyi Ifeanyi’s corner.
Gabriel Okechukwu doubled the lead after 40 minutes to put the Promise Keepers 2-0 up before CHAN Eagles star Kingsley Eduwo got a goal back for Lobi Stars on the stroke of half time.
The defeat means Lobi Stars have now lost eight straight away games at Akwa United.
Akwa maintain their third position on 57 points, five points adrift of leaders Plateau United who have 62 points.
The Ortom Boys remain ninth on 50 points on the log.
