Nigeria’s women national basketball team started their 2017 Women’s AfroBasket on a winning note claiming a 80-69 victory over Mozambique in a Group B game on Friday night.
Adaora Nnenna Elonu was impressive on the night as the top performer with 17 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Ezinne Kalu was the second best woman on the court, with 16 points and three assists.
The two-time champions dominated all quarters bar the last, where they ended it in a stalemate. The first quarter ended 21-19 and the D’Tigress were 41-32 up at halftime. It ended 18-16 and 21-21 in the third and fourth quarters respectively as the game finished 80-69.
Nigeria’s next game is against DR Congo, who lost 99-72 to Egypt in their first game, on Saturday (5:15PM Nigerian time).
