Nigeria’s women basketball team, D’Tigress, made it 6-0 in the ongoing 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after defeating Ivory Coast 98-43 in their quarter-final game on Friday in Bamako, Mali.
D’Tigress continued their blistering run of form in a campaign for a third title, starting the game on the front foot and ended the first quarter 23-13 winners. The following quarters ended 23-2, 25-17 and 27-11 in an emphatic win that showed Nigeria’s superiority in African basketball.
Osarentin Akhator ran out the top performer racking up 21 points and 11 rebounds. She remains Nigeria’s top performer overall in the tournament with an efficiency per game point of 23.0.
The two-time African champions face hosts Mali, who brushed aside Egypt 90-50 in their quarter-final game, in the semi-finals on Saturday (7:30PM Nigerian time).
The tournament’s finalists will qualify automatically for the FIBA Women’s World Cup and the D’Tigress will be looking to take it a step ahead in the contest to achieve this.
