Ahead of the forthcoming 2017 Men’s AfroBasket tournament, the Nigerian Basketball Federation have invited 14 home-based players to camp.
The players were picked from different clubs from the Kwese Premier Basketball League to camp ahead of the AfroBasket competition scheduled to hold between September 8 to September 16 this year in Senegal and Tunisia.
According to reports, the invited players are to report to camp on Wednessday as instructed by the Secretary General of the NBBF Chimezie Asiegbu.
Three players from Kano Pillars, two from Gombe Bulls and two players from Mark Mentors make up the 14-man shortlist invited by the NBBF.
Gombe Bulls coach AbdulRahaman Mohammed and Kwara Falcons’ Adewunmi Aderemi, both of whom double as assistant coach of the D’Tigers, will oversee training in camp pending the arrival of new coach Alex Nwora.
The Secretary General, Asiegbu revealed that the foreign-based D’Tigers are expected to camp in the United States.
However, Olympic star Benjamin Uzoh and Okapi Aalstar have excused themselves from camping, turning down their chances of playing for Nigeria at the AfroBasket tournament.
