Liverpool have agreed a five-year contract extension for Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi according to reports.
The Reds have reportedly made the move to fend off major interest – from European giants including Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter Milan – in the 20-year-old.
Awoniyi will however not feature for Jürgen Klopp’s men in the 2018/19 season as he is yet to sort his work-permit issues.
Meanwhile, Awoniyi is reportedly headed to Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco this transfer window on a two-year loan deal as the club’s Director and Nigeria ex-international, Micheal Emenalo looks to get him to get his services for the French side.
Liverpool signed Awoniyi from Imperial Academy in 2015 and consequently sent him on loan for FSV Frankfurt.
He was loaned to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in the 2016/17 season and was on the books of Royal Excel Mouscron on another loan move last season.
In all, he has scored 20 goals and registered 12 assists in 75 appearances in his club career.
He is yet to represent Nigeria in the senior national team but has earned 20 caps across the age-grade levels.
