Super Eagles of Nigeria have crashed out of the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia following their 1-2 loss to Argentina in their final group game at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.
The encounter on Tuesday evening saw Barcelona star Lionel Messi open the scoring in the 14th minute increasing his goal tally to 65 for the Albicelestes. The Argentina poster boy was first to a brilliant long pass from Ever Banega, controlled well and then fired past goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
In the 51 minute, Victor Moses scored from the penalty spot to equalise for Nigeria after Javier Mascherano fouled defender Leon Balogun in the box.
But the Eagles failed to hold to the end allowing Marcos Rojo score and snatch the win for South Americans to seal their place in the Round of 16 ahead Nigeria.
The defeat means the Eagles have recorded five straight World Cup loses to Argentina.
The South Americans giants will now join Croatia who defeated Iceland 2-1 to advance into the next round from Group D.
Croatia will take on Denmark from Group C while Jorge Sampaoli-led side will face Group C leaders France.
Nigeria last exited the World Cup from group stage in the 2010 edition in South Africa.
