Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is upbeat about the team’s chances of upstaging their group opponents at the World Cup regardless of their unimpressive results in pre-World Cup friendlies.
Following the team’s 1-0 loss to Czech Republic in their final warmup game ahead the Mundial on Wednesday, the coach stated that the team is momentarily not ready for action at the tourney but will get things in order before the first game against Croatia on June 16.
“We’ve 9 days to be ready for our 1st match vs Croatia, as at today we are not ready. I am not sad because of this result, the result that matters will be in Russia,” Rohr said.
Worthy of note, the Eagles have failed to win in their last four friendly games with record of defeat against Serbia, England and Czech Republic; and a draw with DR Congo raising fear that the Eagles might be in a terrible shape going to the World Cup.
Nigeria will square up against the Blazers of Croatia at the Kaliningard Stadium in their first group game before facing Iceland and Argentina in their second and final fixture in Group D respectively.
