In the second half, Nwankwo forced the Congolese goalkeeper to a smart save as he fired a glancing header from a long throw from Ola Aina in the 57th minute.
The referee awarded DR Congo a controversial penalty in the 78th minute as he adjudged Ola Aina to have fouled a Congolese forward in the box.
Ngita netted the resulting spot kick as the visitors drew level.
Nwankwo and Kano Pillars striker Junior Lokosa made a remarkable debut for the national team in the game with the former lasting the entire duration of the game.
