Captain of the Nigeria national team, John Obi Mikel has stated that he is hoping to be the first Super Eagles skipper to win the World Cup.
While speaking to the press on Friday afternoon, the Tiajan TEDA midfielder said that the team has to stay calm and go into the tourney as underdogs.
“I want to be remembered as someone who came to the national team and gave my all. As a player who gave everything. Hopefully, as the first captain to win the World Cup”, the captain was quoted as saying at the conference.
“We have to be humble and go into this tournament as underdogs. It is important for us to stay calm and work hard”.
“My kids are half-Russian. There was pressure from my girlfriend that I have to qualify”.
The Super Eagles will play the Democratic Republic of Congo, England and Czech Republic in their pre-World Cup warm-up games before traveling to Russia for the global football showpiece in June.
