Al Hilal knockout Akwa United on away-goal rule

Akwa United recorded a 3-1 victory over Al Hilal of Sudan in the second leg of their CAF Confederations Cup playoffs at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday.

The Promise Keepers put in an impressive shift to make a comeback in the game as Dennis Nya headed in a timely equaliser in the third minute of the first-half’s stoppage time after Basheer had scored the opener for the Sudanese side on 29 minutes.

Michael Ibe struck three minutes after the break to give United the lead before converting a spot kick twenty minutes later to consolidate on the comeback.

Having suffered a 2-0 defeat to Al Hilal in the first leg of the clash in Sudan, Akwa United were edged out of the competition on away-goal rule.
