The League Management Company (LMC) of the Nigeria Professional Football League have released a four-man shortlist for the matchday 16 VAT Wonder Goal awards.
Sunshine Star’s Sikiru Alimi, Ibrahim Alassan of Kano Pillars, FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s Chijioke Alakwe and Kwara United poster boy Stephen Alfred were all named as the scorer of the Wonder Goals in the matchday.
Alimi’s right-footed 20-yard strike was the opener in Sunshine’s 3-1 defeat against FC Ifeanyi Ubah. Alakwe’s nominated goal – a stunning volley off a loose ball in the box – was the third scored by the Anambra Warriors in the comeback win.
Alassan struck a belter low shot into the bottom corner after outpacing defenders to score Pillars’ equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Wikki Tourists.
Alfred was the scorer of Kwara United’s lone goal in their 1-1 home draw against Enyimba Int’l FC. The forward hit a left-footed strike from long range after a beautiful set up by Micheal Ohanu to earn the nomination.
The VAT Wonder Goal is a community service initiative of the League Management Company (LMC) supported by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) to promote NPFL community engagement and drive the tax education campaign of the FIRS amongst the football fan base.
