Obazuaye wins Silver, Aruna Quadri zooms into final

Faith Obazuaye claimed Silver medal in the women’s TT6-10 Singles event after a shocking 3-1 loss to Australia’s Melissa Tapper in the final on Saturday.

With a perfect record going into Saturday’s final, Obazuaye was tipped to give a tough challenge to veteran Tapper in the Gold Medal match.

The Nigerian, who did not drop even a game prior to the final, however failed to build on her 11-7 win in the first set as she lost focus and conceded seven consecutive points in her second game and eventually lost the match with the sane lacklustre form.

Obazuaye eventually settled for Silver medal and it was a well deserved one, considering her overall performance in the event.

In the men’s Singles, Nigerian Table Tennis superstar Aruna Quadri eased past India’s Sharath Achanta 4-0 [12-10, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7] in the event’s semi-finals on Saturday.

Quadri will face Singapore’s Ning Gao in the final on Sunday.
