Team Nigeria bagged Silver, Bronze medals in Athletics at the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast on Day 10 and it was the 4x400m and 4x100m quartet that produced the high moments on track for the country on Saturday.
- Doreen Amata finished 10th with a result of 1.80m in the event’s final. The athlete started with a 1.75m leap and she was successful in her first attempt. She missed two attempts at 1.80m jump but made headway in her third attempt. Her campaign was brought to an end after she failed on three trials to get past the 1.84m mark.
- The foursome of Ugho-Ughene Egwero, Seye Ogunlewe, Emmanuel Arowolo and Usheoritse Itsekiri failed to finish their race and thus were disqualified in the event’s (men) final on Saturday. They had a baton exchange failure in the course of the race.
- The quartet of Blessing Okagbare, Oluwatobiloba Amusan, Joy Udo-Gabriel and Rosemary Chukwuma finished third in the final of the women’s category. They claimed Bronze having clocked 42.75secs.
- Yinka Ajayi, Glory Nathaniel, Praise Idamadudu and Patience George combined beautifully well to race to a second place finish in the final of the women’s category. They claimed Silver with a time record of 3:25.29secs.
Nigeria thus finish 9th on the Athletics category medal standings with 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze.
