[DAY 4] As it happened: Adegoke dazzles, Ogunlewe impresses | Duo advance into final

The ongoing 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast advanced into Day 4 today, as not less than ten Nigerian Athletes took part in various events. 

Nigeria’s Fadekemi Olude took part in the Women’s 20km race walk held at the early hours of the day in the Australian city. She finished 10th in a time of 1:49:31 hours – 16:14 mins behind winner Jemima Montag.

All the Nigerian representative at the 100m race qualified for the semi-finals as youngster Joy Udo-Gabriel clocked her personal best of 11.42 seconds in the women’s heat category. Jeniffer Madu and Isoken Igbinosun also scaled through the heat hurdle as they finished third in their respective classes.

Enoch Adegoke impressed even more in the men’s category as set a lifetime best of 10.19 seconds to finish first in his heat contest. Ugho-Ughene Egwero Seye Ogunlewe also qualified as they both finished second in their respective classes.

Samson Nathaniel also sealed himself a spot in the semi-finals of the men’s 400m race. He finished second in a time of 46.41 seconds.

Chidi Okezie was fortunate enough to qualify as one of the fastest losers. He clocked 45.84 seconds – his season’s best – and finished fourth in his heat.

In the semi-finals of the women’s 100m category, Madu, Igbinosun and Udo-Gabriel failed to meet qualification criteria and thus witnessed an end to their campaign.

There was however cheering moments in Nigeria’s perspective in the men’s sprint category. Although Ugho-Ughene Egwero could not make it to the final having finished fifth with a time of 10.42 seconds, Nigerian duo of Ogunlewe and in-form Adegoke will hoist the country’s flag high in the final on Monday.

Ogunlewe qualified as one of the fastest losers having finished third and clocked 10.20 seconds in his heat. Adegoke finished first in his heat in a time of 10.24 seconds.
