Hapoel Be’er Sheva striker Anthony Nwakaeme has expressed happiness to regain some level of fitness after a spell on the sidelines due to injury.
Nwakaeme, who was conspicuously ruled out of the Super Eagles squad that featured against Poland and Serbia in their recent international engagements due to injury, stated that he is glad to be back to outdoor training, while expressing his desire to return to action for his club side despite not being in top shape.
“I’m happy to be back. I have started training already ahead of our game on Wednesday. Hopefully, I will get some minutes in the match, though I’m not fully fit yet. I am happy to be back on the grass,” Nwakaeme told AOIFootball.
As regards his chances of making Nigeria’s squad for the impending World Cup, the striker communicated his belief in the Coach Gernot Rohr’s unbiased selection, stating he will get his chance at proving his mettle ahead the Mundial.
“I think everybody has an equal chance to be at the world cup because every player’s dream is to be there, which includes me. I definitely want to play at the world cup, if given the opportunity. If it happens, I will give God the glory but if not, I will just support the rest of the players and the entire team in Russia.
“I believe the chance is open to everyone and the coach will decide who he wants at the world cup or not. So I just want to wish everybody well including myself,” Nwakaeme concluded.
If in full fitness condition, the former Hapoel Rennan forward is in line to feature in the Eagles pre-World Cup friendlies against DR Congo, England and Czech Republic later in the year.
