Portland Timbers striker Fanendo Adi has clamoured for an invitation to the Super Eagles squad ahead the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Adi, who has been on song for the Timbers in the Major League Soccer in recent seasons, communicated his wish to get considered by Coach Gernot Rohr ahead the Mundial in Russia.
With fans and pundits proving the Eagles need for a prolific striker, especially after the team failed to register a goal from open play in their last two international friendlies, Adi believes he can be the valuable addition the team needs to solve goalscoring hitches.
“I have always expressed my desire to play for Nigeria and I sincerely believe that my inclusion will add value to the team. I have got an invitation previously but I was not listed, so I hope that soon, when I prove my worth in the 2018 MLS season, I would get another opportunity,” Adi said.
The striker was invited to the Eagles squad for their 2017 AFCON qualifiers game against Egypt in 2016 but could not make his debut as he was an unused substitute in the encounter.
The 27-year-old has scored two goals and assisted another two in six appearances for Portland Timbers in all competitions this season. He has scored a total of 57 goals in his last four seasons in the MLS.
