The Super Eagles will square up against the Orlovi of Serbia on Tuesday without Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho and Bursaspor midfielder Shehu Abdullahi due to injury concerns.
In a pre-match conference held after the team’s training session on Monday evening, Coach Gernot Rohr revealed that Iheanacho will miss the Serbia clash due to a fracture he has on his right hand.
Abdullahi’s unavailability is however not surprising given he was subbed out from the Poland friendly due to injury.
“He (Iheanacho is out) but that is an opportunity for other players to come in and prove what they can do,” Rohr said.
The coach also rued the unavailability of Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who failed to honour the squad call-up due to a visa hitch, but expressed confidence with the shot stoppers he has on hand.
“One of our goalkeepers (Akpeyi) had a problem with entry visa but so far I’m pleased with the two we have here. Ezenwa and Uzoho,” Rohr said.
“At the moment I’m satisfied with the young one (Uzoho). Before he arrived we were a young team and he’s here now and it’s good for the future.
“Other players in the team are helping him to do well in terms of positioning during corners.”
In regards to the impending game, Rohr stated:
“The result is not the most important thing for us. It’s what we can see, learn and what the players can do. The players need competition and I think they are getting it.”
