2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers: D’Tigers thrash Rwanda to grab second win of qualifiers

Nigeria’s men national basketball team, D’Tigers thrashed their Rwandan counterparts 108-53 in their second Group B game of the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

The 2015 AfroBasket champions got off to a terrific start and shooting guard Michael Efevberha was very pivotal to the surge as he made five 3-point baskets in the first quarter to help the team to a dazzling 31-13 first quarter lead.

The team consolidated on their lead and went on to record 24 more points in the second quarter as against the 15 points their Rwandan opponents scored.

The D’Tigers zoomed ahead to a 40-point lead at the end of the third quarter, making the scoreline 84-40 before finishing up the rout with 24 more points, 11 more than Rwanda could muster in fourth quarter to record a 108-53 win at the Palais Des Sports Salamatou Maiga Arena.

Power forward Talib Zanna was the D’Tigers top performer in the game as he scored 14 points,made 6 rebounds and four assists in the pulsating game. Michael Efevberha scored the most points – 16 – for Nigeria.

D’Tigers will now take on host Mali on Sunday, February 25 in their third game of the first round of the qualifiers.
