Enyimba FC recorded a hard fought 1-0 victory over 10-man Plateau United in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 8 clash at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
The People’s Elephants pipped the 2017 champions on Wednesday to move up to 5th position on the NPFL log and increase their unbeaten run to five games in the league.
The hosts secured the win courtesy of Stanley Dimgba’s strike from the penalty spot in the 10th minute. Enyimba were awarded the spot kick after United’s Elijah Ogene was adjudged to have handled the ball with his hand in the box.
The Peace Boys hitman Sunday Ingbede glanced home from Jimmy Ambrose’s free kick delivery on 54 minutes but his strike was chalked off when the Assistant referee flagged up for offside.
The visitors suffered a big blow in the third minute of stoppage time when Salomon Junior was sent off after he used his elbow on Ifeanyi Anaemena.
Despite the loss, Plateau United retain their second place on the log, one point behind league leaders Akwa United.
Enyimba will face Kano Pillars in their next fixture just as Plateau United will host Rangers International FC in Jos, all on Sunday.
