Kenya’s Abraham Kiprotich has been crowned the winner of the third edition of the 2018 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in the 42km race category.
The competition, which was held on Saturday, saw Kenyan athletes clinch all three medals in the male category.
Kiprotich finished in a time of 2:13:04 hours to set up a new record over last year’s winner Abraham Kiptumto and claim the gold medal. The Kenyan heads home with a cash prize of $50,000.
Duo of Ronny Kipkoech Kiboss and Benjamin Bitok finished in a time of 2:13:23 hours and 2:13:29 hours to claim the silver and bronze medal respectively.
Nigerian sensation Iliya Pam, who promised to do all within his reach to retain his number one position, delivered his promise as he starred in the 42km race as he finished in 2:40:19 hours ahead of all his compatriots. He carted away with a cash prize of N3m for his feat.
Sharubutu Philbus put in an impressive shift to finish as the second fastest Nigerian in 2:54:16 hours while Kefas Williams finished four minutes later to finish third.
In the female category, it was Ethiopians’ show as trio of Alemenesh Herpha Guta, Tigst Girma Getayechew and Ayelu Abebe Hordofa occupied the the medal position.
