Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho made history as the first player in English football history to be given a goal by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
The Super Eagles striker 77th minute strike was adjudged a goal 68 seconds after the assistant referee had flagged up against Iheanacho who he assumed to be offside.
Replays of the incident confirmed that the 21-year-old was kept onside by Fleetwood defender Nathan Pond’s trailing foot.
The game at the King Power Stadium was the third time the video assistant referee (VAR) has been used as a trial in English football, all this month, after Brighton v Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and Chelsea v Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
The goal awarded Iheanacho was, however, the first time the technology will be used to reverse a decision.
