Nigerian table tennis superstar, Aruna Quadri continued his unbeaten run in the knockout stage of the ITTF World Tour as he defeated Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting to advance to the round of 16 of the Swedish Open on Thursday.
The 29-year-old, who conquered Hong Kong ’s Kit Kwan Ho 4-2 to qualify into the main draw of the men’s singles on Wednesday, churned out another spirited performance to beat the World Number 12 yesterday by the same margin.
On Wednesday, Quadri showed his Asian opponent his class. With the match at 2-2, Kwan needed just a point at 10-8 to take the lead but Quadri equalised and forced his way to a deuce to snatch a 3-2 lead instead.
The Nigeria international dazzled his opponent in the sixth game with a 11-4 win to increase his lead to 4-2 and thus, win the match.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s game was just another impressive showing from Quadri as he won 11-4, 15-13, 8-11, 11-8, 10-13,11-6 to set up a round-of-16 clash with Portuguese star Freitas Marcos.
Quadri will square up against Marcos on Friday evening by 4:30pm (Nigerian time).
