Head coach of the Nigeria national team Gernot Rohr has lauded his team’s spirit and determination following the Super Eagles’ impressive 4-2 win over Argentina on Tuesday night in Krasnodar, Russia.
A poor start to the game saw the Eagles fall to a two-goal deficit early after goals from Banega and Sergio Aguero, but Kelechi Iheanacho’s freekick goal on the stroke of half-time put Nigeria back in contention during the international friendly.
Alex Iwobi netted twice and debutant Brian Idowu scored in the second half as Nigeria pulled back to defeat the Argentines 4-2 to the surprise of the world.
“I am happy we came back from 2 goals down to win 4-2,” Rohr said after the match.
“It shows we have great team spirit and determination when you keep fighting after going two goals down against a great team like Argentina.”
However, the German has warned that the victory has not made them become favourites to lift the 2018 Fifa World Cup, stating they have a lot to do.
“It’s good victory for us but it doesn’t mean we’ve become favourites to win the World Cup,” he continued.
“We stay humble and realize we have more work to do.
“We prepared well for this game because playing Argentina is big for us, maybe it is different for them.”
The Super Eagles will know their group stage opponents when the draw for Russia 2018 takes place on December 1.
